Go to big popular forums and see what is cool, layout, links etc.

Check out how they use advertising.

Ads at the top, sides and bottom arnt a big deal imo. So dont think your selling out considering you can make money from this and the hard work you do.

cut sections that dont move or combine them. makes the main sections busier
